This issue has come to the fore in recent years in the context of the very healthy growth in every-member ministry in many churches. Much evangelicalism of an earlier age centred on the ministry of one person in a congregation. Fifty years ago, in many evangelical churches the senior minister would be expected to do more or less all the word ministry and pastoral care.
